Attire for Saturday: festive/cocktail

Attire cocktail/festive—what on earth does that mean? Well, let me explain!

Cocktail means men can wear suits. The advantage of cocktail attire is that the suits can have colours or patterns.

For women, cocktail basically means short dresses—just above the knee. Not mini-skirt short. As everyone says: cocktail means short, but not too short.

Women can also wear pantsuits/jumpsuits or elegant trousers with jackets.

It also means you can have spaghetti straps or bare shoulders.

Festive for men means they can wear trousers and a blazer in different colours—so, not the traditional matching suit combination.

It also means they can wear festive shirts—not just plain white ones.

Festive for women means the same as cocktail, but with more freedom to play with the outfit—sequins, ruffles, glitter, and more. Cocktail and festive are very similar for women; the distinction mainly allows men more variation.

Technically, maxi dresses are not allowed for either festive or cocktail attire, but the only person who can officially change the dress code for a wedding is the bride. Mohahaha! And I say that both long/maxi dresses and headpieces are A-okay! Think hatinators, fascinators, headbands, and decorative accessories—they’re not just okay, they’re welcome and encouraged!

The venue does not allow jeans or unkempt clothing.

Ta-ra!
